River Meter - Auto-Comment Feature based on River Height
A River Meter subscription gets you the ability to have comments added automatically to your feed based on how high the gauge readings are. This can be used to help save lives by giving your web viewer valuable information based on conditions.
For example:
A gauge reading of 18 inches or less ''Low Water - Rocky Conditions'' warning to your local boaters.
A gauge reading of 18 to 36 inches - ''Fair Boating Conditions - Can be low in some areas.''
A gauge reading of 36 to 72 inches would have you giving your web site viewers an automated comment of ''Great Summer Boating - Especially for canoeing and kayaking.''
Finally, a gauge reading of over 72 inches would have you give a warning of ''DANGER!!! - No boating clearance under the Smith Bridge!''
We at River Meter do not know your rivers and waterways and the effect of height on conditions. But you know your rivers so you can define what you tell your web users. There are up to five user defined auto-comment levels and you do not need to use them all.
We can usually tell if the data from gauge sensors are out due to ice or debris and we include that information automatically.
Water temperature - Except for a few sites there is no USGS water temperature monitoring. Maybe next year they will add that to more sites.
